MINOR ATTRACTIONS 2026

Black Swans

MARS Gallery are proud to present The Huxleys' work Magick Maali at Minor Attractions 2026 (October 13 – 16) in the single work section, marking our debut at the London-based fair.

Released as a print on silk exclusively for London, this work draws on Black Swan Theory: the earliest European encounters with the black swan in Australia found them impossible, a stark contrast to the familiar beauty of the white swans they were used to. For The Huxleys, this history became a powerful starting point for Magick Maali, a work that embraces the black swan as a symbol of visibility, of persisting despite disbelief.

The glittering black swan has been a recurring figure across The Huxleys practice, from the 2018 series Postcards from the Edge, to Swan Song (2025) shown at Photo Australia's exhibition On Country in Arles 2025. Magick Maali was also a finalist in the 2025 National Portrait Prize.

Will and Garrett Huxley (Aus/Gumbaynggirr/Yorta Yorta) are Australian based collaborative visual and performance artists, who present queer spectacle and disco enthused wizardry across the visual art, performance and fashion worlds. Their photography and performance art traverses the classifications of costume, film and recording. A visual assault of sparkle, surrealism and the absurd, The Huxleys saturate their practice and projects with a glamorous, androgynous freedom which sets out to bring some escapism and magic to everyday life.
