At dawn, time and place seem to be inseparable. This time of day holds new beginnings as well as muted variations on repeated themes. All the while, there is a unique cadence to the light which changes gradually at first and then all at once. Dawn holds hope, as well as the quiet concession that yesterday has gone.
This body of paintings was made through this past winter and into the spring. As I have worked to find pictures that feel both true and fresh, I have been surprised by what has ended up on the canvas. These works share common visual elements that are used and repurposed from work to work, with every piece reaching for its own conclusion and reason for being. Just as the dawn offers myriad new experiences, these paintings are held within the gallery for the time being - to be discovered and to be seen.
