Rev Joel D Hewlett was a self-taught African American artist whose faith was the driving force behind his work. A dedicated associate pastor, Hewlett’s paintings and carvings depicted Biblical scenes, portraits of Jesus, and the lives of saints, each piece infused with deep spirituality.
