México Clásicas 12 x 16 - GRACIELA MASTER SET

"For me, knowing him was a gift that fell from heaven. I began to work with a man who not only was a great photographer but who also showed me his own, very Mexican, poetic tempo. He used to tell me: "Graciela, you don't have to hurry, there's time. Don't be in a rush to exhibit; there's a lot of work to do." The whole time that I was with him he gave me the opportunity to be close to him, to see how he worked, to go shopping for books with him, to listen to music with him, the music of Bach. A whole world opened up for me, and, above all, his very poetic and Mexican tempo influenced me. It was a much broader apprenticeship than simply learning a craft. He wasn't a professor, he was never my professor, but, rather, a teacher in the broadest sense of the word. He told me that to print photos all I had to do was read the Kodak instructions. But I watched how he made prints in the darkroom;

At that time he was employed by the Plástica Mexicana publishing house and so was working with the art of Velasco, Clausell, and the muralists. And that was when I dared to enter the world that he knew so well and that was rich and fascinating to me. I wasn't a very cultured person."
