Silent Giants is a series of handmade platinum prints by German photographer Jan C. Schlegel, exploring Brutalist architecture as presence rather than structure—quiet, monumental, and charged with memory.
Shot with large-format cameras, the works transform concrete into something almost human. Through careful observation of light, surface, and form, each building reveals rhythm, tension, and stillness—becoming less a façade and more a portrait.
Rather than documenting architecture, the series reflects the experience of time spent with it. Many of these structures, once symbols of utopian ambition, now stand misunderstood or out of time. Yet they retain traces of human intention, failure, and resilience.
Printed by hand in platinum—renowned for its depth, tonal subtlety, and permanence—each work is released in limited editions. Available as individual prints (60 x 80 cm, Edition of 5, and 40 × 50 cm, Edition of 6) or as a complete portfolio of 20 works.
In Silent Giants, Brutalism is reimagined not as a style, but as a collection of deeply human presences.
Each print is available individually as part of an edition of 6, starting at €3,8000 (for the print only, unframed, excl. taxes)
The Complete series boxset is available as an edition of 4, currently at €46,000 (Edition #2/4)
