「上芳」是間花店的名字，是有著綠底白字招牌的那種小型園藝花店。
本次展覽以住家樓下一間實體花店為參照對象，並借其店名作為展覽標題。「芳」字上作「艸」下作「方」，在展覽中所指向的是植物與器皿間相互承載的關係；同時，除了作為增添花草香氣之意，「上芳」也意味著圍繞在圖像、形體和符號「上方」所蘊含的各種言外之意，並彰顯出植栽／植栽者、自然物／裝飾物之間互為彼此的依存狀態。
以生活中真實存在的場域出發進行描繪，通過長期貼近卻又保持距離的觀察方式，所欲再現的不只是目光所及之物，而是從自身與觀看對象間所留有的一點想像空間中，捕捉那些也許一直都存在的隱匿風景。
可以說，上芳是間花店卻也不只是一間花店，而是代指這種台灣常見的花店類型，更代表了此種特定且普遍存在的美學樣態，展覽試圖以此為鏡照，藉以映射出屬於台灣當下的地方文化相貌，體現那藏伏於自身所處環境之中卻又難以被明確定義的潛在台灣性。

Artist Huang Shun-Ting's latest exhibition, 'Plants & Planters,' draws inspiration from a physical flower shop situated beneath his residence, using its name as the title of the exhibition. The Chinese character '芳' comprises '艸' (cǎo, meaning "grass") above and '方' (fāng, meaning "square") below, symbolizing the interdependency between plants and vessels showcased throughout the exhibition. Beyond merely enhancing the fragrance of flowers and plants, 'Plants & Planters' embodies implicit meanings related to imagery, forms, and symbols, projecting notions of 'above' or 'beyond,' thereby unveiling the interdependence between planting/planters and natural/decorative elements.
The artist, choosing real-life spaces as the subject matter, doesn’t intent to replicate scenes as they are seen but rather seeks to portray real-life scenarios drawn from extended, intimate yet distant observations—a space of imagination nurtured through his connection with the flower shop, capturing the concealed scenery that might have always existed.
It could be said that Plants & Planters is more than just a flower shop; it embodies a type of flower shop commonly found in Taiwan, symbolizing a distinct and representative aesthetic. This exhibition attempts to use this representation as a reflection to showcase the present-day local culture of Taiwan, capturing the hidden Taiwanese identity within the surroundings that remains elusive to define explicitly.
