Co-curated by Rose Davey
Opening Reception: Thursday 4th June, 6-8pm | Open Thursday and Fridays, or by appointment.
Sid Motion Gallery and artist Rose Davey are pleased to present their second collaborative exhibition ‘
This and That’.
Building on their previous enquiry into repetition, ‘This and That’ proposes that nothing stands alone - every object, colour and idea is understood in relation to another.
The exhibition centres around a table made by Gary Woodley, painted by Rose Davey, with stools by Francesca Anfossi. A collaboration between three artists, each contribution makes visible the next as the shifting organic shapes of Anfossi’s stools contrast with the rigid order and contained colour of the table. The logic of legibility through the presence of something else is echoed throughout all the works in the exhibition. Alan Charlton’s diptych demonstrates this in the most economical of means. The painted and unpainted canvas are separated by a 4.5cm gap coloured with shadow, a contribution as vital as each canvas. Rose Davey uses a similar painted language to investigate the effect of one colour upon another. Gabriele Beveridge and Jane Bustin both use the exquisite combination of found images and material to mine meaning and response, whereas Iain Hales wrestles sculpture to the wall through the manipulation of the grid.
