Design and architecture have been a shared language for Theaster Gates, Heiji Choy Black, and the founders of Volume Gallery, Sam Vinz and Claire Warner, since the beginning of their friendship. The Stony Island Arts Bank and Volume Gallery have long championed many of the greatest contemporary emerging and established designers and artists, bringing their work to the world from their spaces in Chicago. In this group exhibition, artists and designers share a common desire to honor where they come from with objects of beauty and brilliance and of enduring meaning and substance. The many perspectives, cultures, and geographies represented in Chicago are brought to life here as these makers intend to better our world through art and craft.
