QUANTUM ABSTRACTIONS

by stanley casselman

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Quantum Abstractions is a powerful collection of works that feels new and fresh, elevating the artist’s visual expression to new heights. Beyond the works themselves, there is a historic resonance here — the deep local relevance of the Southern California ‘Light and Space’ movement. Casselman’s practice can be viewed in dialogue with seminal figures such as Helen Pashgian, Mary Corse and James Turrell.

Known for his innovative silkscreen techniques and painterly abstractions, Stanley Casselman’s work resonates at the intersection of science and art. In Quantum Abstractions, the artist draws inspiration from the paradoxical world of quantum physics, where uncertainty, duality and unseen forces reshape our understanding of reality. Through abstraction, fluidity and implied motion, Casselman visualizes the invisible — evoking the balance between chaos and order, matter and energy, the microscopic and the cosmic.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Stanley Casselman (b. 1963) is a New York–based artist recognized for pioneering silkscreen painting, a medium he began exploring in the early 1980s. By manipulating pigment—often from the reverse side of the screen—he captures hidden, energetic imagery typically unseen in traditional painting. His process, both baroque and calculated, layers color, line, and gesture to evoke emotion and explore higher states of consciousness. Casselman studied at Pitzer College, and his work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Gazelli Art House. His paintings are held in major collections such as the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, and Borusan Contemporary in Istanbul.
