STONE CLOUD

Eva x Melbourne Design Week 2025
May 15 - May 25
186 Faraday Street, Carlton VIC, Australia

For Melbourne Design Week 2025, Kasia Töns is partnering with Carlton-based furniture designer, Eva, to explore the growing body of textiles as contemporary art, demonstrating a new engagement with the materials and techniques of crafts. Utilising reclaimed materials and stuffing, this series of hand sewn textile works are designed to join up as an adornment for furniture or separated into individual artworks.

"The process used in making these works is simple, full of possibilities and a bit like building a (soft) dry stone wall. It is the fourth body of work in four years that I’ve created using these techniques, but I’m always thinking about home and personal space when making artworks like these. I think about how textiles can be used to transform spaces quickly and easily and how they can enhance or soften sensory experiences. I think across building and textile practices - what are the current industry protocols? What is the environmental cost? What is the wastage? How were things done in the past? How could we do things better in the future? What are some simple ways we can transform our own environments to feel more at home wherever we are? Lots of questions, lots of potential and with each new artwork I make like this I learn something new, figure something out and usually come up with a new question."
