Top Selections From Kipton cronkite

ArtStager by Kipton Cronkite is pleased to present a selection of highlights from 2023 Paris+ par Art Basel. Kipton's favorite works comprise both Contemporary and Postmodern pieces, mixing both young and more established artists.

Flora Yukhnovich (b. 1990) is a British painter known for her contemporary interpretation of the Rococo painting style. Existing in a constantly fluctuating state between abstraction and figuration, Yukhnovich's paintings explore ideas surrounding dualities and multiplicities, transcending painterly traditions while fusing "high art" with popular culture, and intellect with intuition. The resulting paintings remain open and ambiguous despite their hints at figuration; the viewer has to fill in the looser areas in their mind, leading to a myriad of different readings and interpretations.

Barbara Kruger (b. 1945) is an American conceptual artist and collagist associated with the Pictures Generation. She is most known for her collage-style that consists of black-and-white photographs overlaid with declarative captions. Strongly influenced by graphic design, Kruger addresses media and politics, prompting the viewer to interrogate their own positions on major issues and to "question and change the systems that contain us."

Richard Prince (b. 1949) is an American painter and photographer, best known as a pioneer of Appropriation Art. His interest in advertising and consumer imagery led him to begin creating works based on various pop-culture images taken from magazines and newspapers. In the mid-1980's, Prince shifted his interest from images to text, evident in his Jokes series, displaying appropriated jokes in ironic artworks.

David Salle (b. 1952) is an American Postmodern painter, printmaker, photographer, and stage designer. Salle lives and works in East Hampton, New York. He is known for mixing modes of representation and appropriating ready-made motifs on a single canvas, suggesting but defying legible narratives. Employing the Postmodern technique of pastiche (the close display and imitation of disparate styles and images), Salle's paintings function as metaphors for the dizzying onslaught of media culture.

Jeppe Hein (b. 1974) is an artist based in Berlin and Copenhagen. His interactive sculptures and installations combine elements of humor with the 1970's traditions of minimalism and conceptual art. Hein's works often feature surprising and captivating elements which place spectators at the centre of events and focus on the viewer experience and perception of the surrounding space.
