Marvin Gardens is pleased to present BIG OBJECTS, a three-person exhibition of new paintings, which take physically small objects as their primary subject matter. The genesis of this show was a contemplation of how “big” relatively small things can actually be in daily life. Size is such a relational notion, a small variable can have a huge impact in its quantity or pervasiveness, think candies or a simple lamp in terms of quantitative effect, and think one or two degrees of temperature in terms of an overall pervasive effect on an ecosystem. These notions of large and small are not defined as if in a stasis for observation, they move as one breathes. To participate is to effect change, and as long as we are here together we are all complicit in what we do not understand. Here, we invite you to consider these nine small evocations of stillness, which might give us space to enter their own realm of considerations, where perhaps we can add and subtract small amounts of our unknowing.
