BUTTER 2025 | TORRY BROWN

Torry Brown (Indianapolis, IN) is an artist and writer currently working with still and moving images in conjunction with prose and poetry in the form of handcrafted books as a way to pull at common threads in disparate places. He aims to question the complicated relationship between the self and the other in an attempt to find how each of their strands overlap, become entangled and come apart again. Brown was born and raised in Southern Indiana. He attended Indiana University Bloomington before transferring to Herron School of Art + Design. Upon graduation in 2022, he was given his first solo exhibition – If I Stay Before I leave – which took place in Herron’s Marsh Gallery. Upon the close of the show – he attended Yale University’s Photography Program and graduated with his master’s degree in 2024. Yale’s 2024 Cohort of photographer’s went on to produce a group show entitled Heat Index with Webber Gallery – Los Angeles.
