Works available by: Pascale Marthine Tayou

Pascale Marthine Tayou (b. 1966, Nkongsamba, Cameroon; lives and works in Ghent, Belgium, and Yaoundé, Cameroon) is known for multimedia installations that explore postcolonial identity, globalization, and contemporary African life. Originally working in drawing and sculpture, Tayou began exhibiting internationally in the 1990s and changed his name to challenge notions of authorship and gender.

Associated with the Douala-based doual’art association and represented by Galleria Continua, Tayou incorporates found ephemera from his global travels—such as tickets, packaging, and receipts—into improvisational works that blend popular visual culture with political and social commentary.

He represented Cameroon globally and received the 2011 ARKEN Prize for creating compelling work that engages with issues of global relevance.
