Janet Heath

New & Now | November 21 - December 18

Janet Heath (b. 1957) is a Canadian painter based in Toronto who utilizes the tradition of colour field painting to work through questions of representation and the instantaneous nature of images. In her recent works, tissue paper introduces a delicate, almost sculptural dimension. These paintings feel suspended in time, pausing for the image to fully cohere. Forms gather themselves only momentarily. Color clusters and edges align before dissolving. Similar to the themes of ‘one-shot painting’ first coined by Kenneth Noland, Heath captures the immediacy of a delicate material. Heath holds a BFA from New York University (1978) and degrees from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Columbia University and York University. She has been widely exhibited in both corporate and private collections abroad.
