Colnaghi is proud to present Less is More: Redefining the Kunstkammer, a pop-up exhibition opening in Brussels on 19 April and running until 30 April, 2023. This temporary presentation will aim to redefine the concept of the Kunstkammer, which appeared in Flanders in the early 17th century, contrasting with the aesthetic canons of today.
The exhibition will be hosted in an exceptional space in the heart of Brussels. The minimalist architecture of the building will enable the viewer to take a fresh look at a concept that has evolved over the past 300 years.
From richly ornate collectors' cabinets to the simplicity of post-war void spaces, the exhibition aims to question the way our interaction with art and architecture is changing over time. A selection of the finest old and modern masterworks will be on view, including a masterpiece by the Antwerp Baroque painter Cornelis Norbertus Gysbrechts, After the Falcon Hunt. This work is a perfect example of Northern trompe l’oeil painting, illustrating the rich iconography of Flemish kunstkammers. This remarkable large-scale painting will generously be loaned by the Musée d'Ixelles for the exhibition, consequently highlighting the quality of the museum's art collection.
The exhibition is generously supported by Banque Transatlantique Belgium.
