Binta Diaw une artiste italienne et sénégalaise née en 1995 à Milan, en Italie. Elle vit et travaille entre Milan et Dakar au Sénégal. Binta Diaw est diplômée de l’Accademia di belle arti di Brera di Milano à Milan, ainsi que de l’École d’Art et de Design de Grenoble en France.

La pratique artistique de Binta Diaw se déploie au croisement de réflexions philosophiques et historiques sur les phénomènes sociaux qui façonnent notre monde contemporain — la migration, l’appartenance, le rapport à l’histoire et à ses archives, ainsi que les questions de genre. Son travail prend souvent la forme d’installations et de projets in situ, parfois de dimensions monumentales.

S’inspirant des pensées intersectionnelles et écoféministes, Binta Diaw accorde une place essentielle à l’expérience physique et sensorielle. Ses œuvres deviennent des espaces où la matérialité — ses textures, ses énergies et ses résonances — engage la perception et la réflexion. La terre, les plantes, l’eau, la pierre, les cheveux et parfois son propre corps composent un langage visuel qui rappelle sans cesse notre nature organique et mouvante, autant que notre condition d’êtres sociaux et politiques.

Binta Diaw à propos de la série des Paysages Corporels : "Le corps noir féminin témoigne des douleurs et des joies qu'il a connues et des combats qu'il a menés. Ces photographies mettent en lumière le corps comme un terrain de résistance, de pouvoir et d'action.
La relation ancestrale entre les corps féminins et la nature, revient dans ces œuvres où différentes parties de l'anatomie sont photographiées.

Les photos sont retravaillées à la craie colorée, traçant sur la surface photographique des lignes de couleurs qui transforment les contours et les formes du corps en voyages, chemins et paysages harmonieux et idéalement sans fin. Ces traces sont le résultat d'un processus d'interrogation, d'un questionnement continu lié au mouvement cyclique des femmes, de la nature et de l'art."

Binta Diaw is an Italian-Senegalese artist born in Milan, Italy, in 1995. She lives and works between Milan and Dakar, Senegal. Binta Diaw is a graduate of the Accademia di belle arti di Brera di Milano in Milan, and the École d’Art et de Design de Grenoble in France.

Binta Diaw’s artistic practice unfolds at the crossroads of philosophical and historical reflections on the social phenomena that shape our contemporary world — migration, belonging, the relationship to history and its archives, and questions of gender. Her work often takes the form of installations and site-specific projects, sometimes reaching monumental dimensions.

Drawing on intersectional and ecofeminist thought, Diaw places particular emphasis on physical and sensory experience. Her works become spaces where the power of materiality — its textures, energies, and resonances — engages perception and thought. Earth, plants, water, stone, hair, and at times her own body, compose a visual language that continually reminds us of our organic, ever-changing nature, as well as our social and political existence.

Binta Diaw about the Paysages Corporels series: "The female black body bears witness to the pain and joy it has experienced and the struggles it has endured. These photographs highlight the body as a place of resistance, power and action.

The ancestral relationship between female bodies and nature is reflected in these works, in which different parts of the anatomy are photographed.

The photos are reworked with coloured chalk, tracing lines of colour on the photographic surface that transform the contours and shapes of the body into harmonious and ideally endless journeys, paths and landscapes. These traces are the result of a process of questioning, a continuous interrogation linked to the cyclical movement of women, nature and art."
