Forbidden Pleasures / Cheap Thrills is a 1994 photographic series by Jo Ann Callis that was reproduced in 2019 as archival pigment prints. The series explores themes of sensuality, desire, and domesticity through surreal, highly stylized still lifes. Featuring desserts, fabrics, and everyday objects, the images evoke eroticism through texture, lighting, and suggestion rather than explicit content. Callis transforms the familiar into the uncanny, blurring boundaries between pleasure and discomfort.
All Vintage 11 x 14 Cibachromes are priced at $7,500.
Please note, this series is from a limited edition of Vintage Cibachrome Prints. The edition was originally intended to be an edition of 26 prints. However, due to the cost of printing Cibachromes, many artists including Callis printed on demand after a work was purchased. Due to this, the vintage edition will never be complete, making these prints more rare. Some prints may be inscribed with edition information, but these numbers do not necessarily accurately reflect how many prints are truly in existence.
