We are very pleased to welcome you to KANT´s first solo exhibition with the Danish artist David Noro. “LATE NIGHT, NONE BUT A SHADOW IN SIGHT” consists of a series of paintings and sculptures created in 2020-21.
The exhibition is, as much of Noro´s work, multilayered with references, but one important consideration for the artist, in preparation for this show, has been the idea of a voyeuristic alter-ego hiding in shrubbery and bushes. The voyeur is placed in a scene of discarded debris, a scene which is shrouded with secrecy, where everyday life and chatter meet an illogical reality.
The anonymous onlooker is observing passers by, registering their meetings and mannerisms. In this context many of the paintings appear to highlight a nightly dark atmosphere, “das unheimliche”, where the characters portrayed are undisturbed and continue their worldly activities without the knowledge of a witness.
Noro is a painter, but other work categories include drawing, graphics, ceramics and three dimensional objects. Based on a personal archive of random words, texts, songs and conversations, Noro relays fragments from the everyday, which are poetically enshrined in his artistic practice.
Noro has no preferred subject field. Works are created with a momentary and relational mind-set, where motifs arise and are constantly matured. His works unfold archetypic stories, where villains, heroes and simple characters freely perform in narrations, which can appear equally banal and intellectually complex.
David Noro (b.1993) lives and works in Amsterdam & Copenhagen. He studied at The Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and The Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Noro is represented in private collections in Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Holland and England.
