Sophie Sanders

b. 1970 New York City

Lives and works in rural New Hampshire

Sophie Sanders is a multidisciplinary artist and art historian from New York City whose practice spans fiber art, printmaking, painting, performance, and public art. Informed by her yoga practice, scholarship on African Diaspora artists, and feminist activism, her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in England, Germany, Scotland, Japan, Canada, and across the United States. 

Sanders public art project Here and Now Mandalas received multiple grants in 2024–25, including from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the Putnam Foundation, the NH Charitable Foundation, and the Kingsbury Foundation, and was featured on NH Chronicle (WMUR-TV). In 2025, she exhibited Blue: Water as Metaphor at Palmetto Center for the Arts in San Antonio, TX, and Tikkun Olam: Healing the World at the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art.

She earned a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from the Slade School of Art, University College London, and has taught art history and printmaking at numerous universities while working over two decades as a museum educator.
