Nate Lewis’ signature paper-carving techniques explore connections among the visual languages of dance, anatomy, medical diagnostics and weather-pattern data. Nate Lewis earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and practiced critical-care nursing for nine years.
Lewis’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Brooklyn Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Blanton Museum of Art, and other institutions. He has lectured at Yale University as part of Claudia Rankine’s Racial Imaginary Institute.
