Jane Simmonds

Jane Simmonds is a photographic artist based in the Forest of Dean, whose work sits delicately between the worlds of photography and painting. Through experimental in camera techniques, she creates impressionistic images that uncover the hidden textures, patterns, and moods of the natural world.

Jane works with multiple exposures, blending several images together either in camera or during the editing process, as well as with intentional camera movement, a technique where the camera is moved during the exposure. These processes give her images a painterly quality, rich in abstraction and atmosphere.

Her subjects are often familiar and grounded, seed heads, wildflowers, leaves, trees, but through layered compositions and vibrant colour palettes, they are reimagined into something more sensory and emotional. Jane’s work evokes memory and connection to place, inviting viewers to experience the natural world with heightened sensitivity.

Her photographs have received international recognition, including awards in the International Garden Photographer of the Year, and have been featured in numerous photographic publications. Jane is currently a resident artist at Made in Ross, a collective gallery and gift shop in the heart of Ross on Wye.

Jane’s work will be exhibited as part of Affordable Art, running from 31st July to 22nd September 2025.
