The body of work by Or Shlomo Dahan, presented here for the first time, is the result of two years of intensive material and formal research in his Jaffa studio. Dahan, born in Mitzpe Ramon and a self-taught ceramicist, fuses into clay the desert landscapes of his childhood together with the visual language he acquired during his studies in Visual Communication at Bezalel.
The works, each one unique and handmade using the slab-rolling technique, move between the archaic and the modern: between rocky textures and bold glazes, and symmetrical, upright, ritualistic compositions. Some are constructed from separate segments that join together into a single whole, in a process requiring engineering precision and meticulous planning. This is an encounter between desert silence and power and an urban aesthetic, inviting us to see clay as an expression of emotional and material architecture.
