BUTTER 2025 | ZSAVON BUTLER
Zsavon Butler (Houston, TX) is a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist whose work spans mixed media, encaustics, and ceramics. Through abstract figuration, she investigates the relationship between the human body and its environment, using her practice as a lens to explore the social and cultural complexities affecting women. Born in Woodbridge, VA, Butler initially pursued a career in IT before realizing her creative calling. While studying at American University in Washington, DC, she earned a BA in Visual Media, rediscovering her deep connection to artistic expression. After graduation, she stepped away from her formal practice to focus on family, yet continued creating in the background, quietly refining her voice. In 2009, she made her exhibition debut in Baltimore, MD. A pivotal move to Houston in 2012 reignited her artistic trajectory, marking the beginning of a period of intensive exploration and experimentation.
