In 2024, werd Koen Kievits (°1996, Hilversum, NL) door het Mondriaanfonds geselecteerd om deel te nemen aan Prospects op Art Rotterdam, een sectie voor beloftefol talent. Dit jaar krijgt hij bij Coppejans Gallery zijn eerste soloshow op de beurs. Daarnaast word er ook een grote sculptuur getoond in het Sculpture Park.
Het werk van Koen Kievits vertrekt vanuit een precieze en analytische omgang met vorm, ritme en herhaling. Zijn sculpturale ingrepen en installaties zijn helder en economisch, maar nooit louter formeel: ze onderzoeken hoe maat, ordening en afwijking betekenis genereren in de ruimte. Door minimale verschuivingen, modulaties en spanningen aan te brengen, activeert Kievits de waarneming van de toeschouwer en maakt hij de ruimte zelf tot onderdeel van het werk. Zijn oeuvre balanceert tussen strengheid en openheid, controle en toeval, en nodigt uit tot een geconcentreerde, lichamelijke ervaring waarin kijken een vorm van meten en aftasten wordt.

In 2024, Koen Kievits (b. 1996, Hilversum, NL) was selected by the Mondriaan Fund to take part in Prospects at Art Rotterdam, a section dedicated to promising young talent. This year, he is presenting his first solo exhibition at the fair at Coppejans Gallery. In addition, a large sculpture will be on display in the Sculpture Park. Sculpture Park.
Koen Kievits’ work is rooted in a precise and analytical approach to form, rhythm and repetition. His sculptural interventions and installations are clear and economical, yet never purely formal: they explore how scale, order and deviation generate meaning within the space. By introducing minimal shifts, modulations and tensions, Kievits activates the viewer’s perception and makes the space itself part of the work. His oeuvre balances between rigour and openness, control and chance, and invites a concentrated, physical experience in which looking becomes a form of measuring and probing.
