TIME TRAVEL | GROUP SHOW | PARIS | 2022

Carpenters Workshop Gallery Paris presents the group show Time Travel, showcasing significant works from modern female designers alongside contemporary collectible design.

Leading the show are Ingrid Donat’s Hommage à Groult and Cabinet Klimt. Donat references the work of 20th century icons André Groult and Gustav Klimt in her two distinctive cabinets, translating their spirit into her bronze designs.

Charlotte Perriand’s Buffet, Bahut Forme Libre is also exhibited, responding to Donat’s dialogue with the past. Both Donat and Perriand have championed avant-garde French design, and their joint curation in this exhibition emphasises their visionary craftsmanship.

Vintage chairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa are also featured in Time Travel. A pair of Sorlana lounge chairs illustrates the Italian couple’s ability to distill function and comfort into refined forms, influenced by Tobia’s father, Carlo Scarpa. Afra Scarpa, Perriand, and Donat are all featured in Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s current New York exhibition, The Female Voice in Modern Design.

An installation by DRIFT fills the Paris gallery’s project room. The Dutch studio’s delicate Fragile Future light sculptures, intricate combinations of dandelion flowers affixed to copper lattice frames, are contrasted against the weight of two chandeliers from Nacho Carbonell and Frederik Molenschot in other rooms of the gallery.

The exhibition also includes a coffee table from Vincenzo de Cotiis’ Baroquisme collection, Wendell Castle’s monumental seat Common Ground, and a Kendell Geers bronze mask from his recent exhibition, Flesh of the Spirit, at Carpenters Workshop Gallery Paris.
