KELSEY BLACKLOCK

At The 1876 Johnson House

COMPANION is pleased to present At The 1876 Johnson House featuring works on paper by Kelsey Blacklock and Stephanie Barlow alongside pieces from the gallery’s collection. The presentation honors the house’s original Victorian Gothic era and celebrates its contemporary appeal after 150 years.

The intimate, residential setting is one of Indianapolis' most recognized and celebrated homes. Colloquially known as the "Castle House," it is a significant landmark in the Irvington neighborhood. Built in 1876 in a Victorian Gothic style, it was originally the residence of Eudorus Johnson, son of Irvington co-founder Sylvester Johnson. The home is known for its distinctive architectural features, including high gables, round turrets with dormers, decorative verge board, and a steeple roof.

At The 1876 Johnson House includes three small works on paper by Kelsey Blacklock. The colored pencil landscapes depict an otherwise easily dismissed patch of plants outside her own home. Again I-III were first presented by COMPANION as part of Hold On To This Instead for the 2025 summer solstice exhibition at White River Farm. Additional available works by Blacklock are listed below.

All artworks by Kelsey Blacklock are available for sale. Information about artists in the COMPANION COLLECTION is available upon request.
