黃小燕 (b.1965-2026) 1993 年畢業於法國巴黎國立高等裝飾藝術學院（École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, ENSAD）空間藝術系繪畫組。早年於國立藝專美術科西畫組完成基礎訓練，台灣解嚴後赴法深造，先後錄取巴黎國立高等設計學院（École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art）、巴黎美術學院（ENSBA）與巴黎國立高等裝飾藝術學院（ENSAD）。最終選擇專注於 ENSAD 完成學業，其訓練涵蓋大型公共藝術計畫、古典濕壁畫與空間繪畫實踐，並完成以「當代藝術現象與趨勢」為題之論文研究。
旅法十二年間，她曾獲 Talens 青年創作首獎，並入選巴黎大皇宮「青年藝術家沙龍」與法國重要青年當代藝術展 Salon de Montrouge，期間亦受邀至義大利比薩舉辦個展。其創作早期融合歐陸現代繪畫的結構思維與東方感性經驗，展現鮮明而具張力的表現性語彙。
三十餘年的創作歷程中，黃小燕的繪畫語言歷經轉折與沉澱：自早期奔放、強烈而帶有存在主義色彩的揮灑，到中年後逐漸內斂、凝聚，畫面轉向更為靜謐而厚實的精神狀態。無論風格如何演變，其核心始終圍繞對繪畫本質的執著探索與高度自律的創作態度。
現為國立台灣藝術大學美術系專任教授。
其創作不以市場為導向，而是在持續自我對話與形式推進之中，實踐「Per aspera ad astra」——在艱難之路上，抵達繁星。
Huang Hsiao-Yen (b.1965-2026) graduated in 1993 from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD), Paris, Department of Spatial Art (Painting). Following her early academic training in Taiwan, she moved to France after the lifting of martial law, and was admitted to the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art, the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), and ENSAD. She ultimately completed her studies at ENSAD, where the rigorous curriculum encompassed large-scale public projects, classical fresco techniques, and spatial painting practices, alongside a thesis examining contemporary art phenomena and tendencies.
During her twelve years in France, Huang received the Talens Young Artist Prize and was selected for exhibitions at the Grand Palais Young Artists Salon and the Salon de Montrouge. She was also invited to present a solo exhibition in Pisa, Italy. Her early practice synthesized European modernist structure with a deeply personal sensibility, producing paintings marked by expressive intensity and existential urgency.
Over more than three decades, Huang’s work has evolved from bold, gestural compositions to a more distilled and contemplative pictorial language. While her formal vocabulary has shifted, her commitment to painting as a self-determined and disciplined pursuit remains constant.
She currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan University of Arts.
