Jerico Contemporary

Exhibition Catalogue | Stock: 'Precious Metals'

Jerico Contemporary is delighted to present ‘Precious Metals’, a group show of works curated from our stockroom featuring Australian artists Luke Chiswell, Roman Longginou, Paige Northwood, and Holly Ryan. The exhibition will continue through to Tuesday 4th May 2021.

Bringing together a selection of artworks that speak to distinct and imaginative uses of metals, ‘Precious Metals’ allows for an opportunity to view works in person that have previously only been able to view digitally or were exhibited under the restrictions of 2020. United through their elemental and raw materiality, each work captures the universal intrigue precious metals have long evoked.

Bronze sculptures by Ryan depict a reductive approach to the female form, each nurturing a presence that feels eternal and informed by modernist sculptors such as Constantin Brâncuși. Existing at the nexus of ceramics and painting are Northwood’s small scale works that each bear the mark of her hand, coated in a glaze that glows. The nuanced ways light is caught and projected by crumpled aluminium is depicted with exceptional detail in the charcoal drawings of Longginou. Similarly, Chiswell uses aluminium to cast future relics collected around downtown LA.
