Together we will spend many days, and many nights.

Yet we know already that the revelation will not be miraculous, that joy won't immediately resemble joy.

There is so much in a moment.

Lightning and thunder, too, require time.

You say you desire monuments that need no ground. I always think of stars. Stars as a premise for orientation. As an elementary experience of what it is to be here and not. The promise of possible displacement.

You can still be fooled out of reason, you say. We cry together in a prefabricated hallway. I hold your hand and remind you that matter always yields, that some silent reassurance comes from creating the shadows of things.

Years from now, when a new silence unfolds, I will finally stop trying to place words over every ghost.

The rising winds do hold all the planes.

Together, we look for ways to float.

Tethered, sentimental strategies for drifting.
