BUTTER 2025 | COURTLAND BLADE

Courtland Blade (Indianapolis, IN) explores the psychology of space and cultural dynamics within public and private environments through his work. Blade investigates transience, cultural history, and "perceived Black spaces"—places like barbershops or church where Black individuals don't feel othered. His work captures specific moments of isolation within public spaces and how ennvironmens are constructed to order and control large groups of people. Courtland Blade holds a BFA from Indiaan State University and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. His artwork has been exhibited thought the US and Internationally in Galleries and Museums.
