Crossed Perspectives

Samuel Cueto & Christa David

193 Gallery and Hôtel Jules & Jim are proud to present Crossed Perspectives, an exhibition that brings together the works of Christa David and Samuel Cueto. Through their distinct artistic practices, these two creators explore themes of identity, memory, and marginalization, shedding light on often-overlooked narratives. The meeting of these two unique visions invites viewers to delve into vibrant and profound stories of forgotten or marginalized communities, where memory and humanity converge in a vibrant celebration of diverse identities.

An Afro-American artist based between New York and Atlanta, Christa David combines narrative collages and abstract paintings to explore the stories of the Black diaspora. Inspired by archives and collective memory, her works question the spaces created by and for marginalized communities. Her collage work, often drawn from vintage and historical photographs, delves deeply into personal and collective histories, using these images to reshape the stories of Black and Brown people.

Samuel Cueto, Franco-Algerian photographer, captures the lives of the marginalized and forgotten through his analog lens. His raw and poetic portraits pay tribute to human fragility and the resilience of those living on the margins of society. Through his lens, Cueto focuses on individuals living in the shadows of Thailand’s bustling tourist spots, revealing the hidden lives of locals from Bangkok to Pattaya.
