Walter & Zoniel | The Nature of Interdependence | Catalogue

Cob Gallery is pleased to present photographic series, The Nature of Interdependence, by critically acclaimed artist duo, Walter & Zoniel, who have been collaborating and exhibiting internationally since 2008. Multidisciplinary in their practice, they work within the mediums of sculpture, photography, film and performance as a means to intimately reflect on themes such as; the relationship between humans and nature, the cosmos, science, and perceived ‘reality'. Preoccupied with authentically capturing the life of the subject, Walter & Zoniel are known for their application of scientific process and pioneering of the modern development of early photographic techniques.

The delicate seascapes in 'Nature of Interdependence' were captured at particular coastal points around Britain. Employing a Salt Print process, the images were developed using both the salt and freshly distilled water from the sea-water collected at the precise locations depicted.

In the finished works, motifs of the momentary and the cyclical, the recurrent and the singular, merge in an atmosphere of arresting fragility; with the subject matter having become part of its own representation, we discover ourselves to be looking at it in an uncannily doubled sense.
