At the beginning of 2015 I made an expedition (sporadic, random and incomplete) through the Caribbean in Colombia, documenting in photographs the botanical curiosities and human traces that I found on my way. I came to this decision a few months ago when I was admiring the drawings produced by José Celestino Mutis' workshop in the Royal Botanical Expedition of the New Kingdom of Granada, and it occurred to me that we needed a contemporary version of this catalog that would take into account technological and biological changes. As well as sociopolitical shifts that have occurred in the last three centuries. Deep in my thought as I observed my findings, I realized that the way we define our Caribbean identity is out of fashion. With the passing of time some things have disappeared, others have mutated, and many new ones have emerged. Instead of continuing to use obsolete models and schemes, we must adapt to these changes and seek new ways of seeing and understanding ourselves.
