A Place in the Sun presents a new body of photographs by Karin Bubaš exploring Hollywood as both a geographic location and a cinematic state of mind. Made throughout Los Angeles using Harman Red 125 film, the works transform lakes, rocky outcrops, roadside viewpoints, and overlooked spaces through an orange-red palette reminiscent of faded Technicolor and aged film stock. Drawing on Bubaš’s longstanding engagement with cinema and the relationship between figure and landscape, the photographs blur documentation and invention: figures become actors without scripts, and familiar surroundings emerge as stages upon which memory, fiction, and cultural mythology converge.
