Shibunkaku is pleased to present Ishikawa Kyuyoh at Art Basel Hong Kong 2024. While leaders of the avant-garde calligraphy movement in the postwar period, Inoue Yūichi and Morita Shiryū, pursued the realm of “letters,” here Ishikawa delves into the essence “words.” Through his work, Ishikawa captures the swirling essence within language, presenting it as a living expression above all else. Representative as the “this moment” in calligraphy, Ishikawa’s works secure themselves as a peak in the rich and ceaselessly flowing history of writing. These pieces challenge conventional constraints that calligraphy has endured within Western contexts. Delving into the core principles of calligraphy, Ishikawa’s works redefine the fundamentals and resonate profoundly in a time where many are breaking free from the confines of established concepts and Western-centric narratives. We are delighted to unveil Ishikawa Kyuyoh’s creations for the first internationally in none other than the vibrant city of Hong Kong.

有別於戰後引領日本書法走向前衛的井上有一和森田子龍般對「文字」的追求，出生於戰後並作為書法改革第二代，石川九楊更深入探討結合了文字和情感－即「話語」的深邃意境。他巧妙捕捉話語的本質，融匯歷史、文化和當代元素，以生動的表現方式為觀者呈現出豐富而深刻的藝術體驗，為書法開拓了新的表現方法。人類的書寫歷史在浩瀚時光中不停的交織而成，石川九楊的作品不僅代表了書法史的當下，更代表一個頂峰。
石川九楊的書法獨特且不拘一格，從媒材、內容到創作方式，從根本突破大眾以西方繪畫作為普世標準來衡量東方書法的框架，呼應現今人們急欲衝破固有事物的焦慮心態。思文閣非常榮幸能於香港此多元文化互相碰撞產生火花的、充滿活力的國際舞台上首次呈獻石川九楊的精彩作品，期望作品能為全球觀客們帶來驚喜與啟發。
