Steve Betts is a stone carver based near Hereford, whose work explores abstraction, form, and the quiet intimacy of touch. Taking up stone carving around seven years ago, he began as a newcomer to the world of abstract art. Through steady practice and deep focus, he has developed a refined and personal sculptural language.
Working predominantly in marble, but also in sandstone and soapstone, Steve creates sensual, curved forms that invite physical interaction. His sculptures are smooth and fluid, often suggestive of the body, memory, or emotion without being literal. For Steve, a work is successful when it compels people to reach out, to feel its surface, and to find their own meaning in its shape.
Each piece reflects a quiet meditation on human experience, connection, stillness, and the inner lives of forms. His work encourages slow looking and gentle engagement, offering moments of calm and contemplation in stone.
Steve’s sculpture will be exhibited as part of Affordable Art at Canwood Gallery, running from 31st July to 22nd September 2025.
