Art Agenda

Art Agenda is pleased to present Do you hear the invisible sound?, an inventive group exhibition of Indonesian and Singaporean contemporary practitioners bringing to the fore the ‘hidden’ auralscape of visual works.Do you hear the invisible sound? is a strange question to pose when appraising a visual work. As the title of the exhibition, it embodies the spirit of unsettling the conventional and expanding the pathways in which one appreciates art.

Curated by Stella Wenny and Nabila Giovanna, the exhibition unites diverse topics to emphasise the significance of pursuing clarity amidst the abundance of noise in our world today: Gabriel Aries Setiadi’s sculptures reveal the importance of dialogue between two opposing materials. Ajeng Martia Saputri’s resin flowers speak the tender language of motherhood. Daniel Chong’s installation reflects upon the complexities of yearning for acceptance and care. TEMPA’s Cosmic Patterns works find harmony connecting tangible and intangible elements. Sound artist Kurt Peterson guides our entry into the realm of the auditory, creating soundtracks derived from field recordings that have been uniquely modified in response to the artworks on display. Expanding the field of relational aesthetics, Kurt has selected, spliced and synthesised different sound elements from diverse contexts, akin to a painter at work in front of a canvas.

The exhibition unites diverse topics to emphasise the significance of pursuing clarity amidst the abundance of noise in our world today. It is an invitation for audiences to truly look - and listen - to art.

Poetry Reading and Performance
by Kurt D. Peterson
Echo: Myth is a Place of Meeting is a performance in response to the work of visual artists from Singapore and Indonesia exhibited in 'Do you hear the invisible sound?'. Through sound and text, the hour-long performance recontextualizes the exhibited objects as mysterious spaces and structures encountered along a journey.
