Brassaï (1899-1984)

Born Gyula Halász, Brassaï was a photographer who lived in Montparnasse and became known for his evocative photographs of the city after dark. It was Brassaï who drew Jean Dubuffet’s eye to the raw graffiti dotted across the urban landscape, shaping the latter’s aesthetic and his notion of art brut.
