ArtJog 2024 - Ines Katamso

Ines Katamso's series features sculptural works that attempt to foresee the future, where humans are no longer the center of the world. Paleontology led her to investigate fossils, which are important remnants of extinct organisms. Paleontology attempts to answer questions about the external appearance of these fragmented, incomplete creatures through scientific inquiries and simulation.

This significant, almost intuitive sense persuades Katamso that our modern society is failing, resulting in the extinction of the human race and the regeneration of nature. Through her sculptures, she masterfully elucidates the poignant remnants and echoes of the legacy that modern humans are poised to imprint upon the world. Her work serves as a stark reminder of the impermanence of our societal structures and the enduring impact they may have on the planet's future ecological balance.
