Łukasz Stokłosa / NADA MIAMI 2024

For NADA Miami, Łukasz Stokłosa fronts a booth jointly presented by Amity (New York) and Krupa Gallery (Poland). Known for his dimly lit paintings of haunted royal apartments, abandoned palace grounds, and faded icons, the Polish artist turns his palette on Miami itself- with additions to the cannon that feature ties to the fabled American paradise. Historic gowns worn by visiting princesses, sun drenched landscapes, Art-Deco landmarks in decline, and Michelle Pfeiffer's 'Elvira' from Brian De Palma's 1983 Miami-noir 'Scarface' constellate as both a lament and celebration of the city's singular spirit and place in cultural memory.

Łukasz Stokłosa graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 2010. He was included in Kurt Beers’ compendium of 100 Painters of Tomorrow, published by Thames&Hudson London-New York, presenting a selection of the most promising contemporary painters. In 2015, he was featured in the exhibition Artists from Krakow, Generation 80-90 at the MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art. Since 2017, he has exhibited with Wrocław-based Krupa Gallery, where his exhibition The Most Beautiful and Most Wonderful Things That Can Be Seen If You Can Look was held in 2018, and the exhibition Cliffhanger in 2021. In 2023, the artist participated in his first US based presentation, ‘Dream Journal’ at Company Gallery curated by Jed Moch, followed by his first solo exhibition in New York that same year, ‘Perihelion’, with Amity. In 2024 the artist exhibited at Tureen Gallery in Dallas, Texas, and in a group exhibition at the historic Wohlstetter House in Los Angeles, California.

In 2019, he was featured in the publication Queer!? Visual Arts in Europe 1969-2019 by Anton Anthonissen and Evert van Straaten. Further press includes a feature in Graydon Carter’s ‘Air Mail’ (2023), and a conversation in Interview Magazine with Cristine Brache (2024). In 2025 the artist will have a solo exhibition in the Wawel Royal Castle in Kraków (PL).

He lives and works in Kraków, Poland.
