Discobolus renoue avec l’attrait qu’a l’artiste pour l’antiquité grecque. Le lanceur de disque a disparu mais survit à lui : le disque, solaire et éclatant. Le cercle est centré dans la toile, deux surfaces rentrent en collision, un ciel nuageux sur la partie supérieure et un dégradé sur la partie inférieure. De part et d’autres, des bandes rayées convoquent l’idée de rideaux rappelant une théâtralité mais aussi des colonnes grecques suggérant un début d’architecture.

Discobolus revives the artist's fascination with Greek antiquity. The discus thrower has disappeared but survives him: the discus, solar and bright. The circle is centered in the canvas, with two surfaces colliding: a cloudy sky at the top and a gradient at the bottom. On either side, striped bands conjure up the idea of curtains reminiscent of theatricality, but also of Greek columns suggesting the beginnings of architecture.
