LUKE CHISWELL

SANSTITRE

Jerico Contemporary is delighted to present our first exhibition in Paris, "Sans Titre," with Australian artist Luke Chiswell. This series embodies the essence of transformation, reinterpretation, and the artistic process. Within these works, there's a consistent theme of metamorphosis, as remnants and canvas offcuts from previous creations give birth to new shapes and compositions. Canvases are stretched and reversed to offer fresh perspectives, with exposed staples paying homage to the creative construction process, all sealed within epoxy—a symbol of an ongoing creative cycle where past works become integral to and inform new ones.

In the large photographic works, Chiswell challenges traditional object value by dramatically altering an automobile, making this transformation the focal point. He then delves into the object to seek form and structure, exploring the concept of golden ratios and form in resulting photographs. Deliberate cropping and scaling accentuate this exploration, offset by organic, loose framing. These works engage in a dynamic interplay, abstracting painting into meticulously controlled objects, such as cars, while maintaining a harmonious contrast.

The exhibition also features three recent collage pieces—Giclee archival prints—crafted during Chiswell's Parisian sojourn, underscoring his unwavering commitment to the creative process. These pieces serve as continuous exercises, spotlighting incremental moments and underscoring the significance of small details within the artistic journey. They echo the adage "Little fish taste sweet," emphasising the allure and importance of such moments.

The exhibition opens on the 17th of September, and takes place at 42 Rue Charlot, 75003 Paris France.
